Daily Routines That Build Real-Life Skills and Lasting Independence

The Day Services Option (DSO) at CREATE Independence offers structured, full-day programming for young adults with varying abilities who are working toward greater independence. Rooted in functional, person-centered learning, our DSO supports daily living, community involvement, health and wellness, and meaningful social participation.

With a consistent schedule, small staff-to-client ratios, and individualized support, participants are guided through purposeful routines that strengthen everyday skills and promote engagement in both home and community life.

Your Future Starts with Possibility

Every journey toward employment begins with an opportunity to explore. At CREATE Independence, we're committed to helping individuals discover their potential, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward greater independence and a fulfilling future.

A First Step Toward Employment

The Employment Exploration Option (EEO) is a Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) program designed for individuals who are interested in exploring the possibility of employment but may not yet be ready to pursue a job.

As part of DDS's Day Support Options, EEO provides a supportive, group-based environment where participants can learn about the world of work at their own pace. Rather than focusing on immediate job placement, the program emphasizes personal discovery, career exploration, and meaningful community experiences.

What Can Participants Expect?

Through a combination of engaging activities, guided exploration, and community-based learning, participants have opportunities to:

  • Discover personal interests and strengths by exploring activities, preferences, and abilities that may translate into future career opportunities.

  • Explore different careers and industries through exposure to a variety of occupations, businesses, and workplace environments.

  • Learn about workplace expectations by gaining an understanding of professional communication, teamwork, responsibilities, and workplace routines.

  • Build community connections through experiences that encourage social interaction, independence, and participation in the broader community.

  • Consider future employment pathways by identifying interests and goals that may lead to additional pre-employment or employment services.

Exploration Without Pressure

We recognize that everyone's journey toward employment looks different. EEO provides an opportunity to explore the possibilities of work without the immediate expectation of finding a job. Our focus is on helping each participant discover what interests them, recognize their potential, and develop a clearer picture of what meaningful employment could look like in their future.
